Recommenders for Theatre Creators
2024-25 Ontario Arts Council
Port Stanley Festival Theatre is once again happy to serve as a recommender for the Ontario Arts Council’s Recommender Grants for Theatre Creators (RGTCs). PSFT is seeking proposals for new theatrical works from Ontario-based playwrights, creators, and collectives. PSFT is excited about script-based work, collaborative explorations, and many other forms of theatrical expression. We encourage applications from a wide variety of experiences and practices.
Procedure
We are pleased to announce that we are participating in the Ontario Arts Council’s Recommender Grants for Theatre Creators program. Designed to provide funding directly to playwrights and playmakers, the Recommender Grants for Theatre Creators is a third-party recommender program, administered by the Ontario Arts Council. Through this program, a select number of Ontario’s professional theatres are given the opportunity to recommend writing or creation grants to professional theatre artists who apply. The minimum grant recommendation is $1000 and the maximum is $3000.

Applications are now closed for the 2024/2025 intake. Applications closed on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 1:00 pm
Submission Requirements
We will ask the artists to submit the following:
- A completed and signed creator application portion of the Theatre Creators Reserve application form (available from the OAC)
- Resume/CV – please include history of public presentation and publication and confirm professional status as defined by OAC (see OAC Eligibility Criteria)
- Description of project (title, timeline, amount requested, how will the grant be used, brief description of project)
- A sample of the work to be completed with this grant or a sample of previous work that would support this application (10 pages of script)
- Letter(s) of recommendation (optional)
Value of Grants
The minimum amount that can be requested is $1000, the maximum $3000.

BIOS:
Steven Gallagher is a writer and director based in Hamilton. His musical Pollyanna, had its World Premiere at Theatre Aquarius in 2023, Blackout, premiered in Toronto (The Musical Stage Company, Canadian Stage Co.) His other plays include Murder at Ackerton Manor (Lighthouse Theatre), and Stealing Sam (United Solo Theatre in NYC, Alberta Theatre Projects).
Mark Crawford is one of Canada’s most popular playwrights, Mark’s work has been produced across the country and internationally. He is the author of eight plays, including Stag and Doe, Bed and Breakfast, The Birds and the Bees, The New Canadian Curling Club, and The Golden Anniversaries. Also an actor, he has performed at theatres from coast to coast. Mark grew up near Glencoe, Ontario and now lives in Stratford.
Sophia Fabiilli (she/her) works include The Philanderess (The Second City Award for Best New Comedy), How to Stand Up (Ellen Ross Stuart Opening Doors Award), Liars at a Funeral (Blyth Festival, Magnus, TIP, WTC, ATP, Port Stanley, Drayton) and Why It’s imPossible (Kingston’s Grand Theatre, Great Canadian Theatre Co.).
Cara Pantalone and Joseph Herbison for the past twelve years have collaborated as performers, producers, creatives and arts educators throughout Ontario. Their project Romeo, Juliet & Joni merges the classical text with the poetry and music of Canadian legend, Joni Mitchell.
